Your about to enter into the private life of a wonderful man. He was a Grandfather, a Father, a Husband, a Brother, a Cousin and a Uncle.
This was a kind, caring, humorous and gentle man. Anyone and everyone that came in contact with him fell in love him.
My children adored him and thought of him as their surrogate grandfather. He always made time to play with them, talk to them, hold them and make fun of them.
Even when he called them "Home wreckers", "Little Monster's" and "Rug Rats" they couldn't wait for his next visit.
My sister in law Kathy told me that he told her that if he ever wanted to break a rental lease he wanted to borrow her kids.
Every comment was in jest and was never taken seriously, nor was it meant in a hurtful manner. As far as we were concerned my uncle did not have a mean bone in his body when it came to us.
To this day we speak of him with the utmost respect and love as we do our Aunt Nell.
But the following pages are his story and his 6 years in a training school.
At 11 years old he lost his father. Then his mother (our grandmother) became so distraught she tried to take her life. Less then eight months later on Aug 4, 1920 the proceedings to take them from their mother began and separate him and Alex from their 4 year old sister.
We will never know what happened during that 7 1/2 months, but one must assumed it couldn't have been pleasant for any child.
Please do not judge. Just put yourself in the position of this child and what he had gone through.
